Take advantage of Jo's best-kept secrets for a fabulous party

Making it easy the day of your party is truly the key. It takes some elbow grease ahead of time, and some personal details are always a must, but with some planning you can have a seamless and unique event every time.

tip 01
Plan your menu
Think of one main event item, a dessert you can make ahead of time, and 3-4 side dishes that can be nibbled on as people hang about.
Buy enough alcohol for an army... I'm not kidding. People drink more than you think at a party - they're having fun!
Have extra snacks and tidbits in your fridge and pantry just in case you need to add food at any point.
Consider an alcohol-free option within easy reach of your wines and beers. Feature it so those who aren't drinking can feel special too.

tip 02
Make as much ahead of time as possible

In the days leading up to your party, see what you can prep. Maybe its chopping the veggies or marinating some meat... maybe it's doing something special like adding flowers to cube trays to sneak in a little snazziness to your drinks.
If you're making a dessert, I would recommend doing it the day or night before and then keeping it refrigerated and covered until the morning of the event.
Something I always do is have things like olives and marinated artichokes on hand for a quick get-together.
Another quick tip is making extra cookie dough, rolling it into a log and keeping it frozen so you can toss some cookies into the oven last-minute!
tip 03
Elevate your event with small details

When you're putting the finishing touches on things don't be afraid to use a lot of fresh herbs and citrus! That's my super secret way to add flavor and pizzaz before people arrive.
Never forget to include a signature water pitcher to keep your guests hydrated.
Don't just put food on the counter and table. Add little bowls of nuts and olives near the couches and chairs to encourage people to mingle.
Lastly, always light candles and use flowers lightly throughout your space to make your space feel intimate.
